When I visited some of the largest trees in the world, I knew I had to capture their immense scale and intricate texture. I loved building up the bark through layers of paint and adding my partner walking through them, it gives the piece a stronger sense of scale. This was the first painting I completed after returning from Northern California, and I think it will remain one of my favourites for a long time to come.
